AW: New Odoo Product Configurator Module
byPedro, don’t get me wrong, I highly respect all the work that has and will be done and polluting anything is definitely the last thing I would want.
I have an urgent need for a product configurator working on sales, e-commerce and POS. My market segment are small local businesses and trades of different verticals, I have no customers which would be able to fund a project of such a size. I could live with a temporary solution but I have to be very responsible concerning the customer’s data and future migration efforts and expenses.
What are my best opportunities in this situation, and I’m talking about 9.0 and an availability this year? And I’m sure there many other’s having this need.
Frankly spoken, without any intention to disrespect anybody:
- Should I support Paul’s configurator (with the limited means I have), knowing that OdooMRP would be the better way because of its broad and comprehensive approach and base and therefore knowing I would like to change when this functionality is available in the OdooMRP project without knowing now if this will happen and if yes, when.
- Urging Paul to base the configurator on OdooMRP which will reduce the cost contribution to his work already done, but could may be improve his chances for a successful campaign
- Ask OdooMRP members/team an own campaign and support it?
I don’t want to start any fights, but unsuccessful campaigns (for example because of a lack of cooperation) are damaging the whole ecosystem and delaying progress.

Betreff: Re: New Odoo Product Configurator Module
Ermin, I think I have to clarify some things that are being mixed and pollute what has been achieved in my project: OdooMRP project [1] and [2] has made enhancements in a lot of areas not involved necessarily with MRP. The project scope was to boost out manufacturing companies, but that means to improve all the areas that a manufacturing company uses: sales, purchases... and of course manufacturing. There are a lot of modules that involved manufacturing (mrp_* modules) that will need to be refactored when v10 arrives, that's for sure. It's the same as the accounting modules for v9. But the rest of the areas (sale, purchase, procurement...) are unaffected (or at least, not too much affected, a normal migration process is required), and this includes the product configurator for sales and purchase (and probably the manufacturing one doesn't involve too much changes, but that's something to see).
Regards.

It is hard to say for me how much impact the new MRP approach of Odoo 10will have on the OdooMRP project. So this might well be an obstacle forinvesting in porting it now.So Paul's product configurator is a viable alternative for the next 2 or3 years until things are sorted out and established.
