well since the version 12 if I remember well you can rename account code & name there is no constraint anymore

Few versions ago the accounts changed (their codes). Is there any way to update the COA in a efficient manner?

Regarding the level of detail of the chart of accounts:
I suggest to stick to the current and "official" chart of accounts 2015 from VEB. There is the small one (School Version) and the extended one (SME version). The small one is quite too small for many companies and the full SME COA is much too detailled for small companies. 
My suggestion: We should/could set up the SME COA, but archive/deactivate all the accounts not contained in the School COA.

If they connect to Odoo in english, they see the VAT list and the Chart of account in french.

I plan to do a PR to change the l10n_ch module source language to english.
