Odoo Week in Cartagena 2025: Community, Technology, and a Vision for the Future
Spanish OCA Days and Odoo Days – June 2 to 6

From June 2 to 6, 2025, Cartagena became the stage for an extraordinary week for the Odoo ecosystem in Spain.
During the Spanish OCA Days (June 2–4) and the Odoo Days 2025 (June 5–6), the community came together to collaborate, share, and shape the future of a platform that has already become a key part of thousands of companies in the region.

Active Participation and Greater Diversity of Profiles

This year’s code sprint was once again highly dynamic, with strong involvement from both experienced developers and new contributors.
It is increasingly common to see the participation of marketing, business, and functional consulting profiles, bringing complementary perspectives to technical work.
This interaction between technical and functional areas helps drive a type of development that is more user-focused and aligned with real-world needs, beyond purely technological challenges.
A positive trend that strengthens both the quality and the practical value of community efforts.

Achievements and Progress During the Spanish OCA Days

Over the course of the sprint, multiple milestones were reached, both technically and functionally. Some of the highlights include:

OpenUpgrade: Live Demonstration of a Key Tool

A technical session featured a live migration using OpenUpgrade, the community tool that allows databases to be upgraded from one Odoo version to another in a controlled manner.

The session clearly demonstrated its power and practical utility, especially in environments where preserving historical data and customizations is essential.

OWL and the Increasingly Strategic Role of the Frontend

Dedicated time was given to OWL, the JavaScript framework that underpins the modern Odoo frontend.
A technical talk focused on OWL explored its growing importance in the ecosystem, best development practices, and how it integrates with business logic.
The overall message was clear: the frontend is becoming a central part of delivering powerful and usable business solutions.

MIS Builder Migration to Odoo 18

A key achievement during the sprint was the migration of MIS Builder to Odoo version 18, a tool widely used for advanced financial reporting.
This ensures continued use of the tool by many companies and highlights the community’s technical responsiveness to version upgrades.

Verifactu: Progress and Future Outlook

Significant progress was also made on Verifactu, addressing both development updates and adaptation to new regulatory requirements.

Discussions also covered the future of Verifactu in autonomous regions with their own specific requirements, such as the Canary Islands and Navarra, with teams sharing insights and experiences from these implementations.

Education and Training: The Role of Educational Institutions

A recurring topic in multiple conversations was the growing interest from vocational and technical training centers in incorporating Odoo into their programs.
During the OCA Days, educators and collaborators in the education sector exchanged ideas and experiences, recognizing that Odoo skills are becoming increasingly relevant in the job market.

Technical Progress Across Key Community Repositories

Sprint participants contributed significantly to several key OCA repositories, including PR merges, issue resolutions, enhancements, and new features.

Notable repositories where work was done include:

  • project

  • rma

  • account-analytic

  • partner-contact

  • contract

  • management-system

  • storage

  • queue

  • data-protection

Odoo Days 2025 (June 5–6): Shared Vision, Real-World Solutions, and Ecosystem Growth

Real Solutions, Live Debates, and a Packed Agenda

Odoo Days 2025 focused on functional, strategic, and collaborative aspects, with a rich and diverse agenda you can explore here:

 🔗 Full Event Agenda

The event featured concrete solutions, panel discussions, and live debates with participation from Odoo Spain, creating an open space for discussing the most important current and future topics of the ecosystem.

A key recurring topic was Artificial Intelligence, approached from technical, functional, and strategic perspectives.
Following these discussions, the OCA/AI repository was created that same weekend, marking the start of a community-driven initiative to integrate AI into Odoo.

VoIP and Social Media Projects: New Apps for the Community

Two new apps developed and funded by AEODOO were unveiled during the event:

  • VoIP: telephony integration to make and manage calls directly from Odoo.

  • Social Media: content publishing and automation across social networks from within the ERP.

These applications previously did not exist in the community ecosystem. Their development reflects a strategic decision by the association to invest in high-impact tools for daily business use, aiming to expand the scope of the Odoo Community core.

Strategic Conversations and a Shared Vision for the Future

More than just networking, the Odoo Days served as a space for strategic dialogue among implementers, consultants, clients, and new players.
Business models, industry challenges, development priorities, and shared perspectives on the future direction of the Odoo community in Spain were discussed in depth.
The synergies built during these days provide a strong foundation for future collaboration and shared growth.

Conclusion: A Community That Grows, Matures, and Diversifies

The most valuable takeaway from this week in Cartagena is the feeling that the Odoo community in Spain is evolving on multiple levels.
This is no longer just about code—it’s about cross-disciplinary collaboration that involves business, strategy, education, and long-term vision.
The speed and quality of technical progress is now mirrored in other areas, and that’s precisely what will ensure the community remains strong, useful, and sustainable.
