Re: Migration to version 9

I know the drill, I've been a project management office manager for nearly the last 20 years :). My question targeted the workflow for the 1 module 1 repo approach, especially for the maintenance part. I feel comfortable with the vertical repositories, I use the submodule approach for my servers, where the needed verticals are pulled as submodules (and to update the submodules i have to git pull every single one of them, which is manageable until there is a limited number of them). But what maintenance workflow is expected for the 1 module 1 repo approach?

Am I missing something? Who are we developing for?

Almost all developments are to cover what is called "Use Cases" the deployment and decision to put them in production environments is a different approach.

Stolen your Gas pipeline example, and as you are not developet I will use it to explain.

When you plan and construct the pipeline you do not manage the problem as only a big element called "Distribution Line" (That's odoo deployed in production). You split the Project in several pieces and every piece is delivered by a separate supplier. Let's say:

- The pipes.
- The screws to join the pipes.
- The o-rings to contain the pressure on the pipes.
- The barometers to measure the pipeline is working fine.
- The Gas Itself.
.... and so on.

Then, Imagine the OCA as a supplier of "Elements for Gas PipeLines" and the url github.com/oca and odoo.com/apps as a huge catalog of elements sold by differents suppliers.

On that word (The pipeline) you have several solutions even for the same problem, you as expert on such topic decide project based which solution is better, and decide what to use.

The vertical-** repositories are some pre-assemble kits which helps you to solve very specific situations.

I hope it helps you!..

Regards.
