I recommend manage for now your own repository indicating "Follow OCA rules" and put properly links, who want use/contribute/feedback, can ask you and you can put some OCA team inside the repo itself.
BEing in your position it is not feasible try to re-think everything just for merge purpose, it is better in the first step simply document with which modules you already know you are incompatible and try to merge into OCA compatibility flow step by step.
I prefer as you have, Use a known, clean and ducmented repository managed by the author than a mess of WiP PR's for 6 month 1 year waiting pointless blessings...
BUt the blessings from time to time are necesssary (it will improve the code) you can work on that from time to time.
Kudos BTW, excellent example of "Keep your word " what I see here..... (and try to open proper PR's to odoo/master BTW) I know there are things that can be proposed to the core also.. and may be the feedback improve your project.
