I always loved the Idea of Blueprints in Launchpad, and Openstack has a pretty good tool just developes for such purpose (have a single view of what is being done)
Openstack for me is the example to follow (the have such the same caracteristics from us in terms of community).

Even if we decide bring all from github the idea is there.
They have a dashboard also for tasks (but I do not remember the name).
The real point is that we need a team dedicated to those tasks I am pretty sure this must be a very talented team that help us to give the proper presence and visibility in terms of this. (alá openstack).
They have a pretty awsome set of tools very well.... *+everythng
