You raise a good point. It indeed prevents auto merging (some) porting PR's.
I did a quick test on https://github.com/OCA/project/pull/96 and it seems a simple rebase works.
I'd think the benefits outweight the small pain of a rebase.
Do you have a couple of other examples I could try?
