Hi!
OK, sometime next week, I will help migrate that module to v8, may be you could help review :)
I will also see if I could extend or make another addon to answer the 1st Deposit Invoice requirement also.

If it couldn't, I might continue our way to do that module.

By the way, do you know if there already module for 1st Deposit (with following invoice deduction) somewhere?
Also, are there already purchase_order_partial_invoice exists?
  Don't forget to take a look at the OpenInvoice concept in Odoo V9!
  You can invoice before, after, more or less than you deliver and it takes care automagically of upselling and backorders...
