Re: OCA Repositories in Odoo Apps Store

In my opinion it's a bad idea to set a price on the modules. A flat price would be confusing for modules which have very different values. And as said we don't want to make the effort to put a specific price on each module.
We also don't want to block the newbie that arrives on apps.odoo.com to think all OCA modules have a fee. While those are free of charge. For the little players our OCA modules would be disregarded and it could be counter-productive.
Plus, if our OCA modules have a price the one that buys it could think there is some kind of hotline support for it.

About funding the OCA and to comply with Odoo Apps rules would a donation button in the readme with some text explaining what the money would be used for (OCA operations)?

Here are the incentives:

- With extra money we can invest in HTML design to get more visibility and/or support the OCA in its other tasks.
- Some old world people might think that a thing without a price tag is worth less.
- There might be some people that are happy with their OCA module and just want to make a one time donation to support by tossing some coins in OCA but don't want to grab a membership.

Of course it could be ridiculously small as a funding but we shouldn't expect a priced module to have a much better positive impact, while it could fool few people, humans tend to find the way around when something blocks their way and it would be rare to have someone that pays the module and not find the github repository or the OCA apps store.

- The more important one: Odoo forbids in their conditions to have the module with a lower price (free in this case) available in other places. This was something highlighted by Ivan Yelizariev in Twitter and I think it's still not enforced, but it's a matter of time. He can comment about this if reading this thread.

I think this could be the blocking point. They write it at
> If you sell your app directly from your website, or on others platforms: the price on the Odoo Apps store should always be equal or lower than the one on other platforms.
> If you offer promotions or discounts on other platforms, you must decrease the price on the Odoo Apps store to the same amount, during the same period

However I see Ivan's modules published, with price, on apps, and freely available on github.

Nevertheless, I like Frederik's idea: it could be a good way to fund the OCA.
But it could be a difficult way. If we want to try it, we should ask Odoo SA about the possibility of publishing priced modules on their website and free modules on OCA website.
After all, for them it could be an additional source of profit, compared to the current situation.
