Re: OCA Repositories in Odoo Apps Store

Interesting discussion here. Changes in with oauth will probably leads to changes anyway as Graeme stated.

Important points I see reading you:

- being on Odoo app store do matter for OCA visibility, we should absolutely not cancel this. Would be a stupid move IMO. Newbies discover us by this channel very frequently. Redirecting people to our own one is a good idea

- giving love to our own app store is probably highly valuable

- pricing our module on app is too difficult for many reasons, we should not

Finally we should probably advertise a bit more that some module may not be display on app store, explaining the reasons.

Actually I think we need to check some things with github integration. I think they disabled api key access and require oauth now.

I imagine odoo apps facing similar issues.

Hi Pedro,

all fair points. Legally "royalty free" is NO Price. So i almost bet my
ass the contract would fail to grasp our case (but of course they
invent something new than).

High commission of 30% definitely is an issue but probably the bitter
pill to take

For sure we shall ask the contributors for their take. But i think
if we get a large majority +1 for such a strategy any surplus we gain
from "selling" these modules can be used to

- improve the modules marketing
- sustain the OCA
- do the actually (from a technical perspective) non important job (of
upating this html file)
- still be visible on the official App store

About pricing. Unless there is a term in the contract, i'd do a machine
learning algo that determines the perfect price ;-) And that is
probably as cheap as a litre of milk ;-)

Maybe we shall discuss it on the board first, but the more i think of
it better i like it, because to me it still feels like the most
intelligent think to do to deal with their strategy to get ours right
on the long run.

Best Frederik
