The hierarchy is not needed in accounting because the chart of account has limited scope, whereas for projects you can have hundreds of projects, 7 levels deep.

You would need to design one report for each project, which seems to be impractical.

I am one of the bigger defenders of Hierarchy whenever it is needed, BUT in accounting it happens that with some programming you can have it at report level perfectly.

We did it for Mexico and it works pretty well.
