No, you got me wrong. Sure you can do it with the mode you suggested,
but its not better as it was before but in the best case equally
performant. And i'd honestly analyze this data even using the BI
functions of Odoo (but these are damn slow as you know).
 
Reducing a level of complexity (as it happened from v8 to v9) may make
sense in some cases but accounting by the nature of the beast is
hierarchical (thats why upstream markets used star schemata and complex
infocubes in even more complex data warehouses for ages). 

Now this problem can only be solved, if you can join flat structures
(as they where created with the move from 8 to 9) as you go. This in
turn only works well with in-memory or et least columnar distributed
data management but Odoo for the time being does not address this.

Anyway the longer i speak of it the more i understand that i most
probably have to live with it, at least for the time being ;-)
