I am more in favor of creating a group responsible of the changes (both GL+category in product) and control them via ACL.
I dont like the idea of not allowing the change because there might be many reasons why you should change an account or a category.
Best regards

Hello Jordi,

Maintaining multiple inventory GL Accounts is also for us one of the changes planned for 2016.

I agree that Odoo should only allow to change the category of a product if the stock valuation is 0. We already have a few lines of code (Odoo 8 – new api) which warn the user while changing the category in case the quantity available is greater than 0.

If they want to prevent the user to mess up things, changing the inventory valuation account in a product category should also not be allowed.

Regarding changing the field inventory valuation for a product, changing this should only be allowed for a restricted number of users. In my opinion, security rules for this should be standard feature.

Regards,

Wim

Subject: Maintaining multiple inventory GL Accounts

Dear accounting experts,

We're considering maintaining multiple inventory G/L Accounts, as per common practices in manufacturing industries:

- Raw Materials

- Components (also called Semi Finished Goods or Work In Progress)

- Finished Goods

- Service Parts

While this can be achieved solely by means of using the product classification fields with a single inventory GL account, this classification would not be reflected in the Balance Sheet, where it is needed for external reporting purposes.

The problem I see with using multiple inventory GL accounts in Odoo is that it allows a user with permissions to change a product or product category to completely mess things up if they change the category to a product.

Odoo should only allow a user to change the category of a product (or the inventory GL account of a product) if the current stock valuation for this product is 0.

What is your opinion?
