Events Policy
Join our workgroup...

As the OCA grows it has come to light that we need a clear events policy to help guide us into the future.

We have people asking for event contributions and support which we would of course love to be able to offer assistance as and when we can - we need a long term plan to deal with this.

By the end of 2023 our aim is to have a clear events policy for 2024 - this will allow time to share with the community and get feedback as we create this.

Details to work from to date:

  • Budget and planning needs to be in early for the year ahead

  • Ask for sprints to be announced by January of the upcoming year

  • Focus on strategic sprints with objectives

Options to date:

  • Option 1:

    • Fund a certain number of events up to a specified amount each year

    • Use of funds as seen fit by event organizers, receipts to OCA.

  • Option 2:

    • Strategic sprints

    • Amount pre-determined and to be used towards the "strategic" element (potentially something like bringing in experts, covering flights, accomodation, etc)

  • These options are not mutually exclusive, there could be the potential to combine the two depending on the event.

The current discussion within the work-group is to define the strategic element of these sprints. These would be sprints that fit in with the long-term goals and objectives of the OCA as a whole, the sprints would work towards moving certain areas forward, for example - work on Open Upgrade, or even OCA Tools (eg: runboat, QA, CI etc)

Great stories have a personality. Consider telling a great story that provides personality. Writing a story with personality for potential clients will assist with making a relationship connection. This shows up in small quirks like word choices or phrases. Write from your point of view, not from someone else's experience.

Great stories are for everyone even when only written for just one person. If you try to write with a wide, general audience in mind, your story will sound fake and lack emotion. No one will be interested. Write for one person. If it’s genuine for the one, it’s genuine for the rest.
