Re: 2016 OCA Delegates

Hello Wolfgang,

Thank you very much for your comments. I was expecting questions like yours to explain the process and improve its transparency.

·         And I am not sure what the democratic part of the members is?

As explained in the bylaws, the member is NOT part of the General Assembly. You have to become a Delegates to vote and participate in the GA. 10 new Delegates are elected every year by the current Delegates. The only requirement to be a Delegate candidate is to be a valid member (CLA + membership fee paid).

·         Do they have any participation besides contribution, support, etc. in the OCA organization (what about monitoring, challenging or any other means of democratic tools)?

Yes, they do. They can write on the member mailing list and be read by Delegates and the Board. We will give (or at least try to) a higher priority to an issue raised by a member than to one raised by a non-member.

·         Is the vote result only private? The platform seems to try to provide independency and objectivity.

This year, the Delegates election results have been published on the members mailing list and are included in the General Assembly record. This is a first time. Part of the GA is the vote on publishing previous year record. So 2016 Delegates election results may be published next year after the 2017 GA on the OCA website.

·         Is there an open resource where decisions are documented?

Bylaws and the OCA blog. Part of the GA includes the vote of publishing documents: Previous year record, Financial Statements, Activities Report, Next year budget. The GA may also include other topics and decisions. In 2015, the GA made some changes to the Bylaws for example. This year, we may request Delegates' opinion about how to reduce the delay to merge a pull request and reduce frustration of first-time contirbutors.

I hope everything is clear enough for you now to write the single page you suggested or at least a blog post. I think this would be a great contribution.

Thanks.

Maxime

Hi Maxime,

Thank you for the pointers.

So to see, I did not miss any vote as a member as the delegates were elected by the existing delegates only (I probably should have read the whole bylaws).

I would love to have and see great transparency in the OCA.

I would like to see that the process is explained on a single page (on top of bylaws?!) in an easy and effective way + the next dates as I was searching for it and it was not easily possible (asking you or a delegate is not the optimal way I guess and the bylaws not really encouraging in case you don’t want to dive in really deep).

I always criticized Odoo SA for their communication even with the partners about changes, terms and other moves, so I hope that OCA might do better ;-)

At least now I know a little bit more. Thanks to you + my curiosity how things seem to work which OCA can claim it is the task of any member, but I know that normally these things need to be brought to the people otherwise the “acceptance” could suffer.

Looking forward to see the OCA grow and make it a real open organization which I guess is difficult enough already based on the contributions done by various people and companies.

Regards,

Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang,

OCA Delegates have voted from April the 25th to May the 6th, using https://vote.heliosvoting.org/

The vote and all the General Assembly process has been announced at the end of the April issue of the newsletter:

Let me know if you have further questions.

Hi Maxime,

Thank you for communicating the result. May I ask when and where we could have voted?

I remember getting the mail and the possibility to candidate as a delegate but I never have seen any announcement that the election is open or when and how it will take place.

I found this (https://odoo-community.org/blog/oca-news-1/post/oca-election-and-general-assembly-2015-16#blog_content) which is was the blog post from the last year.

Of course it is not so important by now but as I am interested in democratic principles I would appreciate to get some pointers that I won’t miss it next time.

Thank you for your efforts.

Regards,

Wolfgang
