I contacted my sale representative to ask for an official position and an effort on the odoo 9 version to be «saleable»
I invite all the partners to do the same.

From a partner point of view, it is quite embarrassing because we are now asked to sell something that is missing basic
features and we have to find an organization (OCA or somebody else) to make this product compliant with normal
business rules.

Netherless the missing features were already there and need now to be rewritten

This reminds me the story of the partner/contact issue and IMHO the new situation is a regression not a progress at least from the accounting point of view.

V8 was not so terrible in accouting functions
It was "usable" for basic needs

OCA doesn't have to replace Odoo for basic accounting needs

I agree with Frederic’s point of view.

There are good things in V9 but currently you have to stay away from v9 accounting until the community has created the modules that close the gap between standard V9 and the real customer accounting needs.

This is not different from the past. I haven’t seen an OpenERP/Odoo version yet that can be used for full blown accounting without installing a whole set of community modules.

Let’s use the OCA as the vehicle to do this work to avoid ending up with multiple modules on that reintroduce the concept of fiscal years, some legal requirements, …

Subject: Re: Odoo 9 Accouting : Fiscal Years and Periods

On my side, I see a lot a positive things in this version 9 enterprise but at the moment I focus on what I still cannot figure out.

For example :

*  how to work without the journal item menu : I need to check account balances, do corrections , calculate & post cut-off entries... ie : how to calculate unrealized gain&loss on receivable and payables accounts without the currency balance on reports

*  how to work without fiscal year :  well, we have an end date, that's ok in most case but what if the company change date of fy ? manuel filter are not a good answer.

* how to without any way to permanently locked a fiscal year ? That is a legal issue here. The locking system in place can be change if you have the rights.

* French FEC report is a legal requierement but is not in the standard.

* There is no way to print an simple account summary, you can only print the full GL but it crashes after only few hundreds of pages.

* So you have to work on the screen. However, If you work on the screen through the GL you are limited to 80 lines (that you cannot change) and you cannot even filter on an account. Of course you have a link to display more lines but then no more initial balance, balance column or currency information...

* In Switzerland (did not check yet for France) odoo has removed the official P&L and B/S report because parent_id does not exist anymore. So I guess we have to do the job again.

* You can create reports based on tags (on accounts & tax) but a tags is too easily removed or 'quick' created to be reliable. I am concerned about that..Users will say reports are wrong because they will do errors on params without even realizing they did the error....And if you base report on user_type then you have to handle a lot of types which not ideal as well...

At first, these issue were no big deal for me but then I realized after few bug reports that Odoo is not willing to change anything, so we will analyse if modules need to be created/ported very soon.

In 'Accounting > Configuration > Settings' you can place a 'lock date' (see screenshot)

For the report, it's done through the date or period selection

Objet: Odoo 9 Accouting : Fiscal Years and Periods

Hello everybody,

As the new version of Odoo doesn't include fiscal years and periods anymore, does anyone know the strategy proposed by Odoo ?

Thanks in advance
