I have also wondered some logics sometimes but you formulated this very well.
Is there any difference between a Community version and Enterprise with this thing?

This is a bit strange, from what I'm used to seeing in other systems, such as SAP. 

For example, I would assume that in case that you launch a christmas sales 2016 campaign, you'd want to see how many leads you attracted, but also how many sales orders were created. Probably the leads originated from a mass mail or web page, but the sales orders were created as manual conversions from those leads/opportunities.

Does this make sense to you?
