Re: Odoo Product Configurator campaign

Hi Frederik,

Basically with each milestone reached the respective module will be released as opensource. This was suggested by David Beal and later by Joël.

I have been notified that there have been some arguments that releasing the source only with the full budget being reached is making a few people uncomfortable.

By releasing the the modules in a gradual fashion it will return something to the community even if the full budget is not reached.

Also for people who are still skeptic about the quality of the code this will also help and show there is nothing to hide.

I'm doing my best to get traction and release this opensource.

If this is not enough I will understand. I just want to be 100% sure I did my best to make this work before calling it quits completely.

Best,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I am not sure whether i understand your plan right? What are the milestones you speak of here ? If i get it right i absolutely support the idea of redirecting potential customers wanting that feature to the campaign (will do the same here) letting you gradually opening the whole product.

Hello everyone,

Due to request from members of the community and OCA I have defined a series of milestones for gradual release of modules.

David Beal was the first to suggest this even from the first campaign. He also reinforced this idea on the second one.

I have decided to release individual modules as LGPLv3 and the full package for AGPLv3. Thus releasing modules instantly as the milestones are reached.

Except for the donations of Maxime and Fabien the other contributions were done through my personal efforts of sales, demo, and many hours of calls and answering questions. An exception is initOS which was a great supporter even before the campaign started and did not require any any great efforts.

I keep at this task and I try to make people invest to the campaign as opposed making direct sales. Making redirects as leads come in to contribute to the campaign.

This is the absolute best of my abilities to commit to the opensource cause.

If you have any feedback to make this move forward please do voice your opinion.

Otherwise I cannot afford any future use of resource to make the modules opensource.

Best,
Paul

The BOM generation looks good; it works as expected.  It was self explanatory, so I don't need a video.  I borrowed Ursa's demo database (I hope Max doesn't mind).

Upgrading to v10 is a higher priority, for me, than providing configuration on the MO.  I'm interested in adding configuration to my own custom MRP scheduling module.

Hello Matt,

There is a video on how it works for our customer with a third party application.

In regards to our standard bom generation I can do that as well but it's nothing complex and looks a lot like the other video.

Hence why MRP improvements are on the top spot in the roadmap.

I can do a separate one if you think it will help the campaign, if you just want to see it for yourself just let me know and I can setup a demo for you.

Thanks about the site notice btw I fixed it.

Regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Would you consider making a video of how to use BOM generator from configuration?

Matt

p.s. It seems like the Pledra site just went down

Thank you for your input and good wishes.

While that is also a good approach people interested only in certain parts will contribute until their part reaches the milestone.

This can stall the contributions and prevent the modules from being released as opensource.

The budget is set to USD because EUR allows contributions only through paypal and that is a inconvenience.

I hope this time round there's a better outcome and I get to release everything as opensource.

Spread the word!

Paul

2. The campaign does not reach the 25k target:

Hi,

I hope your campaign will succeed, but I think you may have progressive amount (with subpart of code delivered) to avoid no result in community.
