OCA Days 2019 - Louvain-la-Neuve

OCA Days 2019 were held once again in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. Over the course of the two days (30th September and 1st October), nearly 160 on-site participants and more remotely came together to code, learn, present, share and have fun as part of the Odoo Community Association.

This year the event was held at the Martin's Agora, just across the path from the Aula Magna where the Odoo Experience took place for the 3 days after the OCA Days. The event saw a number of "newbies" and a good amount of familiar and long-standing faces as well. It was exciting to see people working collaboratively and this face-to-face time that the community gets a couple of times a year continues to prove to be beneficial all round.

Coding/Reviewing/Translating Track

The main room was a hive of activity over the two days. With participants having the opportunity to come together to work side by side much was accomplished. Be it from creating new modules or revitalising existing ones, completing reviews of pull requests or supporting other members.

The room was broken up in to groups depending on what people were interested in working on. Some areas that were tackled are below.

Discussing and Training Track

This year utilising one room for both of these tracks meant we had some very full sessions. We have a number of the presentation slides available for viewing on the OCA website.

Day 1, Morning Sessions:

Day 1, Afternoon Session:

Day 2, Morning - training sessions:

  • How to start with Shopinvader. Sébastien Beau, Akretion and Laurent Mignon, Acsone.

  • Odoo as a WMS. Joël Grand-Guillaume, Camptocamp.

Day 2, Afternoon Sessions:

Before lunch on the second day all attendees met in the code sprint room to have an open discussion about the future governance of the OCA, how becoming a member and putting oneself forward as a delegate throughout the Annual General Assembly process is so important to keeping the OCA dynamic and also sustainable.

With so much discussion the AGA in 2020 should hopefully be filled with many new delegate applicants and hopefully some motivated new Board member candidates.

During this time the OCA Board was able to give some time to thanking Eric Caudal  who was a long standing member of the Board.

All in all, the 2 days were a success with all the feedback from the attendees helpful as the planning for OCA Days 2020 commences.

Great stories have a personality. Consider telling a great story that provides personality. Writing a story with personality for potential clients will assist with making a relationship connection. This shows up in small quirks like word choices or phrases. Write from your point of view, not from someone else's experience.

Great stories are for everyone even when only written for just one person. If you try to write with a wide, general audience in mind, your story will sound fake and lack emotion. No one will be interested. Write for one person. If it’s genuine for the one, it’s genuine for the rest.
